Plan Ahead and Prep for the Recipe
Prepping some things ahead of time makes the day of baking the galette so much easier.
- You can make the filling up to 2 days ahead of time. It tastes the same if you make it and immediately assemble or if you make the filling ahead of time. If you make the filling ahead of time, just take it out and let it come to room temperature before you start assembling the galette.
- Make homemade pie dough ahead of time. You can even pre-make the dough as well. When you’re ready to bake, all you need to do is to roll out the dough and add the apple filling.
- Within an hour you’ll have a delicious, elegant and absolutely beautiful galette to share with friends and family.

Favorite apple peelers
For peeling just a handful of apples, we love our OXO peeler. But if we have a ton of apple recipes to make, then we’ll go to a countertop peeler. Both options are great.

Favorite Apple Varieties for Galettes
The apple variety can change the flavor of the galette quite a bit. Eating apples tend to be sweeter and more flavorful. But if you’re a fan of a bit of tartness and acidity to your galette, then green granny smith apples are perfect. Some of our favorite pie apples that we find near us are: Honeycrisps, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smiths, Opals, and the Jonathans or Jonagolds. What are your favorite apples for pies and galettes?

Add Toppings to Your Slice of Galette
Eating the galette on it’s own is already delicious. But if you want, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. It’s an extra decadent and creamy treat to the galette but totally worth the extra calories! If you like caramel sauce you can also drizzle some of that sauce on top too.

This was such a neat recipe. The crust was nice and crispy with a hot inside. Perfect texture for this dessert.
Made this for Christmas Eve dinner at our son’s family home. It was so delicious, has its own caramel sauce. Used the tenderflake shortening pie dough recipe, very flaky, and crisp on the edges.
Absolutely delicious! And surprisingly easy to make with my store bought pie dough.
I made this with a Trader Joe’s pie crust and it was wonderful!
