This galette is made with the refrigerated pie dough you'll find the rolls of at most grocery stores. You can easily substitute your favorite pie dough if you want to make the dough from scratch. Using the pre-made dough makes this galette super easy. The apple variety can change the flavor of the galette quite a bit. Some of our favorite pie apples that we find near us are: Honeycrisps, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smiths, Opals, and the Jonathans or Jonagolds. See post above for additional recipe details.

4Tablespoonsbutter
4medium applespeeled, cored and sliced 1/4-inch thick
1/2cupbrown sugar
2teaspoonsground cinnamon
1/2teaspoonground nutmeg
1/4teaspoonground clove
1/2teaspoonsaltor to taste
2Tablespoonsall purpose flour
2Tablespoonswater
1Tablespoonlemon juice
1refrigerated pie dough rollor homemade pie dough
1egg washor melted butter for brushing
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F .
Peel and slice apples. Set these aside.
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the 4 Tablespoons of butter. Add apples and sauté apples until the they start to soften a bit, around 3 min. (depending on apple thickness and apple variety).
When apples are starting to soften, stir in the 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon clove, and about 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
In a small bowl, whisk together 2 Tablespoons flour, 2 Tablespoons water, and 1 Tablespoon lemon juice. Pour the flour/water mixture to the apples and stir until everything is combined. Cook for 30 seconds - 1 minutes or until it the juice thicken to a gravy-like texture. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Roll out pie dough roll. Add apple filling to center of dough, leaving about 2 inches around the edges.
Gently fold the edges toward the filling, folding and overlapping each 2” section. Brush the crust with egg wash or melted butter.
Bake at 400°F for 50-60 minutes, or until crust is golden and cooked through. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Note: For egg wash, we like to beat together 1 egg with about 1 Tablespoon of water until evenly mixed.
