Tips on How To Make Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies
- For the quickest method, use quality canned pre-made apple filling.
- Fresh filling is great too by sautéing some apples in butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Here’s a great recipe.
- Check on them at least once during cooking so that the pastry doesn’t burn. Flip if needed to get even cooking on both sides of the hand pies.
- Substitute other types of fruit fillings like cherry, blueberry or other pie fillings.
- Instead of the turbinado sugar, you can use a drizzle of chocolate, caramel, lemon icing or powdered sugar.
How to Store Leftover Apple Hand Pies
- You can store these up to 3-4 days in the fridge in an air tight container.
- Make sure they are completely cooked before storing.
- Freeze these cooked hand pies in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- For re-heating after freezing, allow the apple hand pies to thaw completely through. Then warm in the oven or air fryer at 350°F for about 5-10 minutes, depending on the size or quantity of your hand pies.
Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies
Ingredients
- 21 oz. (595 g) apple fruit filling
- 14 oz. (399 g) refrigerated pie dough (1 box – 2 crust in box)
- egg white , beaten
- turbinado (raw) sugar, for topping

- Cut 6 (5-inch) circles using a 5-inch bowl or similar. Flatten out the pie dough with rolling pin to about 6 inches wide.
- Add 2-3 Tablespoons of filling to one half of pie dough circle, fold in half. Press with a fork on both sides of the hand pie to seal. Brush top of hand pie with egg whites. Sprinkle tops with sugar.
- Spray basket, place hand pies in basket.
- Air Fry at 380°F for 10 minutes. Flip and Air Fry for another 3-8 minutes or until golden. Allow hand pies to cool before serving.
