How to Make Simple Deviled Eggs
- Don’t bland deviled eggs. A good amount of seasoning is what makes the deviled egg yolk filling delicious. Don’t be afraid to add enough salt or seasonings to bring out the flavors. We like to add a touch of soy sauce for more of a “umami” flavor for the egg yolks.
- Smooth filling: Use the back of a spoon or small rubber spatula to make the yolk mixture as smooth as possible. Mashing the yolk against the walls of the bowl will help smooth the mixture.
- Have fun with toppings! Try different toppings like fried crispy onions or shallots. We love adding pickled onions, jalapeno or even chili oil.
- Piping: You can use a small spoon to fill the white half of the eggs with the filling. Of if you want a fancy and nicer looking piping of the yolk mixture, we talk about it below about different techniques.

Easy Method of Piping Yolk Filling
If you want a fancy or pretty looking piped yolk, you can use a pastry bag with a start tip. But if you just want to gobble them down quick, here’s two methods for easy filling:
- Use a small spoon and fill the yolk mix into the egg white shell. This is definitely the quickest and easiest way.
- Instead of using a pastry bag with tip, use a little ziplock plastic bag. Fill the bag with the yolk filling, then squeeze the filling to one of the corners of the bag. Use scissors to cut a small hole in the corner. The squeeze the bag and it becomes a quick and easy piping method.
Delicious Topping Ideas
Toppings is what makes deviled eggs extra special. You just need a small sprinkle of toppings for each deviled egg. A little bit goes a long way and makes each bite yummy.
- we love adding fried crispy garlic
- crispy onions are great. You can buy them in a bag all pre-fried.
- Use fresh slices of jalapenos or serrano chili peppers
- Any type of hot sauce like sriracha or chili onion crunch
- chopped crispy cooked bacon
