Equipment
Instructions
- If there’s liquid on top of the yogurt drain it before you measure it out. Combine yogurt and flour until all the flour is mixed into the yogurt and dough forms a ball.
- Lightly flour a cutting board. Knead the dough for about 30 seconds. Cut the dough into 4 equal parts. If dough is sticky lightly flour your hands. Don’t add too much flour or the dough will become tough.
- Roll each dough piece into a ball. Lightly flour your finger, then poke it in the center of the dough ball to create a hole.Gently stretch out the center hole to be about 1” wide opening and shape the the dough into a bagel shape. Allow to rest and rise (will rise just a little) for about 15 minutes.
- Brush egg over the bagels. If adding seeds, sprinkle seeds or seasonings on top of bagels.Gently place bagels in your air fryer, leaving enough room between the bagels for the to expand. Don’t crowd the basket or rack. Cook the bagels in batches.
- Spray air fryer basket or tray with oil to make sure bagel doesn’t stick while cooking (you can also use air fryer parchment sheets).
- Air Fry at 330°F for about 10-14 minutes, or until bagels are golden and cooked in the center.Serve with cream cheese or make an awesome bagel sandwich out of it.
Notes
- We prefer the Stonyfield non-fat greek yogurt and Fage Total 0% Greek Yogurt. If you want to use whole milk yogurt, the Chobani whole milk greek yogurt is also thick and easy to work with.
- These bagels have a wonderful yogurt taste so don’t be surprise if there’s a slight sour taste to the bagels.
- The egg wash is optional and for folks who can’t eat eggs feel free to leave it out. But if you can eat eggs, they add a great chewy and crisp, brown texture to the bagels. They also help the seeds to stick to the top of the bagels.

What are the Best Air Fryers?
Here’s our extensive write up on Air Fryer World’s Best Air Fryer Guide. There’s so many on the market now. You just need to research and find the ones that fits your needs, capacity and style. We group the basket style air fryers into 2 main size groups: 3-4 qt. range & the 5-6 qt. range. There’s oven style and basket style. With so many to choose from, we highlight the ones that are most popular for small to medium sized families. Here’s our favorites:
Good Mid-Sized Air Fryers
“That’s a stylish Air Fryer” was said as we unboxed the Cosori. Beyond being stylish, it has cooked great. The basket is not as tall and wider than most in its size group, which is perfect. You’ll have a lot better results in an air fryer with single layered, spread out foods, then with ones piled high and thick.
The non-stick basket style (non-wire base) & smoothness of the basket tray is also great for clean up.
Has a great ceramic coated basket, one of the longest lasting we’ve used. Super powerful fan that will often cook recipes even faster than other air fryers. We initially returned our first one because we thought we wouldn’t like the basket style. After reconsidering, we bought another and are super glad we did. We love it’s basket and just a platform insert. One less bulky thing to wash. This is a great air fryer.
Simple functional panel. Solid basket design that is less likely to come unscrewed or break like other designs frequently do after a few months of repeated use. Great price for the size. They have several color options for the design-minded user.
Good Larger Air Fryers
This is quickly becoming one of our favorite larger basket style air fryers. Great basket size, good controls, cooks nice. Clean up is great. It has become one of our kitchen favorites.
Most of us are familiar with the Instant Pot Brand of pressure cookers. They now make air fryers and it has become a regular in our kitchen. The Vortex plus 9-in-1 is beyond the conventional air fryer. The “plus” boasts features beyond the hot circulating air: Broil, Bake, Dehydrate, Rotisserie, Roast and Re-heat.
12 Cooking modes. Connects to your smartphone & has Alexa or Google Assistant integration for voice control. 32 quarts. Large enough it actually has a rotisserie too.

I’m so glad I found this recipe. I’ve already made several batches, where I also added my seasonings (everything bagel seasoning) INTO the dough. Absolutely DELISH!! This recipe is absolutely my FAVORITE!! After sharing my bagels, others have asked for the recipe.
THANK YOU again for sharing your recipe ?
thank you so much Chris! Makes us so proud that you enjoyed the bagels.
Hello! Would this work with vegan yogurt? Specifically coconut based? It still has probiotics and live cultures, but may be a bit runnier.
-curious bagel-loving-vegan who really wants to try this recipe
Hi Bria, we’re not sure about vegan yogurt and have not tested it yet. But hoping if any of our readers had success with it, they’ll let us know. Thanks for asking!
Delicious!
I love this recipe. It was fun, easy and delicious! The next time, however, I will make my own self rising flour because the brand I used has 300mg of sodium per 1/4 cup! Yikes! Thank you for sharing this recipe! I will make it many many more times!
The texture and appearance was good. However, with no yeast, the flavor just wasn’t the same as a real bagel.
The kids really enjoyed having fresh bagels for breakfast. It’s such a great feeling spreading butter on a warm and freshly made bagel.
Can I use almond or coconut flour. or whole meal flour
Hi Patricia, we haven’t tested it with any of those flours yet. When we do we will have a write up about it with photos and video. stay tuned!
These are very yummy. They turned out awesome
Thanks Lori!
Recipe is great except the bottoms of the bagels aren’t done, so I turned the bagels over so that the bottoms are on top, sprayed a little oil on the bottoms and air fried the bagels for a few more minutes. The bottoms got done and the bagels were perfect.
I would call it a bagel. It has the right inside texture and but actually crunchy (un-bagel-like) on the outside. I used the egg wash but the surface of the dough was rough, so it is not pretty and shiny like the photo. I will make again b/c it is a nice little breakfast for small amount of WW points.
Hi! Can I replace Greek yogurt with normal yogurt or sour cream?
Hi Sheena, yes you can use normal yogurt but it might not be as thick as greek yogurt. In this case, just use a little more flour until you can manage the shaping of the bagels. We haven’t used sour cream yet, but have heard that it does work well!
Has anyone tried mixing anything IN the bagel dough? Like cinnamon chips or chocolate chips?
I put in dices pickled jalapenos and shredded sharp cheddar cheese and they come out great! I have also used blueberry greek yorurt with a fantastic result.
Wow Dee! the diced pickled jalapenos sounds amazing and so do all your other different options. Thanks for sharing!
what size air fryer was used in this recipe?
In the photo we used a 5.8 Quart Cosori. If you’re using a smaller air fryer, you might only be able to cook 2 bagels at a time.
Mixed in thawed blueberries…came out delicious.
Bagels in an air fryer. Can’t believe it then I tried it. They came out amazing, way better than store bought.
I love how my bagels turn out after I put them in the air fryer! Thanks for the suggestion!
