This is one of our favorite seafood appetizers to serve at parties and Holidays. This smoked oyster dip recipe is especially perfect for New Years and paired with Champagne or bubbly wine! But beyond the holidays, this dip is fantastic anytime of year. It’s also great for brunch when served with vegetables and light cheeses. Best of all, the health benefits of smoked oysters are amazing.

Tips on How to Make Smoked Oyster Dip
- Chopped fresh herbs: if you can get your hands on some fresh parsley and fresh dill, this will make the dip extra amazing.
- Fresh lemon juice and zest: we love adding extra lemon zest and juice. The bright flavors really balance out this smoked oyster spread nicely.
- More texture: capers, chopped olives or minced onion add extra flavor and texture.
- Hot sauce: this is totally optional, but adding some hot spice is an amazing addition.
- Add any extra ingredients that you like to customize your smoked oyster dip. That’s what makes this dip so great.

Smoked Oyster Dip
Ingredients
- 3.75 oz. (106 g) canned smoked oysters , drained (or more to taste)
- 8 oz. (227 g) cream cheese , softened to room temperature
- 1/4 cup (56 g) mayonnaise (optional for a creamier dip)
- Zest of 1 medium Lemon
- 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked paprika
- 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) chopped fresh dill or 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) ground chipotle , or to taste (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) cayenne , or to taste (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) salt , or to taste
- black pepper , to taste
- 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) capers or chopped green pitted olives
- Crackers or cut veggies for serving
- Slices of lemon for serving
Instructions
- In bowl combine smoked oysters, cream cheese, optional mayonnaise, lemon zest, lemon juice, smoked paprika, dill, chipotle &/or cayenne, salt, and pepper).
- Using the the back of a spoon, smash & stir the oysters into the cream cheese mixture until everything is combined evenly.
- Gently stir in the capers or olives. Transfer to a serving dish. Chill until ready to serve.
- Tip with slices of lemon and serve with crackers or cup vegetables.

Make Ahead Party Dip
This is the perfect dip to make ahead of time. You can make this dip about 3 days before serving. The day that you plan on serving this take it out of the fridge for at least 3 hours. This will ensure that the dip is soft and spreadable. Serve the dip with your favorite crackers, bread, chips or cut vegetables.

Can you use black olives instead of green which we don’t like? And is there a substitute for capers or should we just try it as is? It looks delicious but for those two ingredients we aren’t fond of….
Hi Toby, you don’t have to use any of the ingredients. Yes, black olives are great too! If you like relish or diced dill pickles that would be a nice addition to add a little bit of tang and acidity to the dip. Enjoy!
