Easy 3-Ingredient Baked Bagels
Ingredients
For the Bagels:
- 1 cup (240 ML) plain, thick non-fat greek yogurt
- 1 cup (125 g) self rising flour , *if using all purpose flour, see note above.
Optional Top ingredients:
- 1 (1) large egg , beaten * read note
- (optional) bagel toppings: Sesame seeds, pre-mixed bagel seasonings, poppy seeds, cheddar cheese, sliced jalapeños.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with parchment or silicone baking mat and lightly oil or coat with cooking spray.
- If there’s liquid on top of the yogurt drain it before you measure it out. Combine yogurt and flour until all the flour is mixed into the yogurt and dough forms a ball.
- Lightly flour a cutting board. Knead the dough for about 30 seconds. Cut the dough into 4 equal parts. If dough is sticky lightly flour your hands. Don’t add too much flour or the dough will become tough.
- Roll each dough piece into a ball. Lightly flour your finger, then poke it in the center of the dough ball to create a hole.Gently stretch out the center hole to be about 1” wide opening and shape the the dough into a bagel shape.
- Place bagels on prepared baking sheet far enough apart to give room for them to rise. Allow to rest and rise (will rise just a little) for about 15 minutes.
- Brush egg over the bagels. If adding seeds, sprinkle seeds or seasonings on top of bagels.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes. Rotate sheet pan halfway through cooking.
- After 25-30 minutes and they are lightly browned, increase oven heat to 450°F and bake for additional 4-5 minutes or until the bagels are golden. (Flip the bagels if needed for bagles to cook evenly)Serve with cream cheese or make an awesome bagel sandwich out of it.
Notes
- We prefer the Stonyfield non-fat greek yogurt and Fage Total 0% Greek Yogurt. If you want to use whole milk yogurt, the Chobani whole milk greek yogurt is also thick and easy to work with.
- These bagels have a wonderful yogurt taste so don’t be surprise if there’s a slight sour taste to the bagels.
- The egg wash is optional and for folks who can’t eat eggs feel free to leave it out. But if you can eat eggs, they add a great chewy and crisp, brown texture to the bagels. They also help the seeds to stick to the top of the bagels.

I’ve made these DOZENS of times. Perfect every time (even when I burn them). I’ve added some cheese (approx 1/4 cup, gruyere or asiago) and they are FANTABULOUS.
Thanks MJ, so glad the recipe has worked for you so many times! love the addition of cheese. thanks for sharing!
can you use the fage 2% or 5% yogurt?
Yes! We’ve made it with both and it comes out great. Enjoy!
Yummy and so easy
This recipe made me feel like a real baker hahaha I can’t bake to save my life but this here is the easiest baking recipe I’ve done. Thank you so much!!
These are delicious! I didn’t want to have to boil them then bake. I’ve making my second batch! I put parmesan cheese & garlic on them delicious!
Thank U!!!! I was a Hit with this Simple 3 ingredient Bagels. My variations were to make Brown Sugar/ Raisin, cinnamon Bagels. They were Wonderful!
Brown sugar Raisin Cinnamon sounds great! So glad you enjoyed the bagels Karen.
Can i add frozen blueberry? and what is the measurement for this? thank you. and keep safe
Hi Jin, if you want to add frozen blueberry start with about 1/2 cup first. If it cooks good then you can try adding a little more. Enjoy!
Can you cook the dough in water first to make the bagel more crunchy or doesn’t that work with this yoghurtdough?
Thank you 🙂
Hi Jen, we don’t think that method of boiling the bagels is necessary. The air fryer cooks these fine and it’s a quick, easy way to get a warm batch of bagels for breakfast!
My husband loves them. “Just like a dessert.” His fave is topped with Everything topping.
My kids asked for this for breakfast again. It’s super easy to make and they love helping. Although the dough does get sticky, after a few tries we figured out how to manage the dough with enough flour. It takes practice, but it’s worth it!
I’d love to make these bagels this weekend. I typically shop at Trader Joe’s since it’s within walking distance from my apartment. Have you tried this recipe with any Trader Joe’s brand yogurts with luck? I saw one reviewer saying it was a fail. Thank you!
Hi Dana, we bought the Trader Joes brand of yogurts and they’re really soft and runny. We do not suggest TJ’s for this recipe. Like we mentioned, the thicker yogurts work best.
Woah! I’m never buying bagels again! Goodbye Thomas bagels and hello to these babies! Lol
Thank you for the quick run down on how to change your all purpose flour to self rising it was super helpful!
I used plain whole milk Greek yogurt and made my bagels everything and cinnamon sugar flavor. Excited to try new flavors as well.
That’s awesome Marissa! Homemade and warm is best for sure. 🙂
Mine turned out gummy in the middle.
Couldn’t bake longer as they were already
quite brown. They don’t have the “tooth” that bakery bagels have, at least the parts I could
eat that weren’t gummy. I guess it depends on
what you like. I may try them again.
So glad I could get this done so quickly. My kids ask for these all the time. I always use the really thick yogurt. It makes a big difference in terms of how sticky the dough gets. I tried the trader joes regular non-fat yogurt once and it was way too runny. Fail. But your recommendation for the Fage is really the best. I should have listened to you the first time!
Hi Grady, glad your kids love these too! Yeah, some yogurts are still too runny and definitely makes it hard to form. Adding more flour helps firm the dough, but then it bakes too tough.
SO DELICIOUS!!! WILL NEVER BUY STORE BOUGHT AGAIN!
Easy recipe! Lovely taste….however at end of cooking my bagels are still very doughy and raw tastin inside. What am I doing wrong? Ended up cutting open and returning to oven…. they are also quite flat …..?
Did you ever figure out why this was happening? I’m having the same problem lol.
P.s. thanks for the recipe!!!
I believe that means too much flour is being used. That is what I read on a tik tok video making these , haha. Mine were the same, and I used less flour as i went, feeling out the dough and they are good now!
I love having fresh bagel in the morning. I even make this at night!
Super easy to make and much better for you than store bought bagels! I top mine with a little garlic salt and Parmesan and use them for egg and turkey bacon sandwiches, delicious!
Sara– Your turkey and bacon bagel sandwiches sound fantastic! Thanks for making these and sharing.
I have never been a baker – NOW I AM!
I love these bagels. I I can make them – anyone can. Thank you so much.
P.S. my son is a chef and doesn’t understand why I dont have to boil the bagels. LOL
from Dawn
Wonderful and super easy. I added some dill, chives and bagel seasonings into the recipe. I love these! Plus, it’s cheaper and healthier than store bought bagels.
I couldn’t believe how easy this was to make! I’ve been making these for the family for breakfast before everyone heads over to work and school.
I make these all the time, I double the batch and store them in the refrigerator. Just pop one out slice and toast so delicious and so quick. The kids even love them.
Hi Shira, that sounds great to make a double batch! So glad your kids enjoy them.
I added some cream cheese and took it on the road to work. Feels so good to actually make my breakfast from scratch in the morning! My co-workers don’t believe me when I tell them I actually made this! Totally sending them the recipe.
If I want to use sundried tomatoes or cheese do I add this to the dough?
Yes, you can add it to the dough and it should be fine! If the sun dried tomatoes are packed in oil, then you should drain the oil well so it doesn’t make the bagels greasy.
Would you be able to use coconut or almond flour to make them more keto friendly? Then you would just have to add your leavening.
Hi Julie, we haven’t tried these flours yet but think the bagel would turn out too tough and dry. It could also depend on how fine the coconut or almond flour is that could have better results. If you try it let us know how they turn out. thanks!
It’s so easy to whip this up for breakfast. Added some cheese on top, so good. Love this recipe!
I have just enough time to make this before heading out for work. Thanks for such an easy recipe!
