WHAT IS THE BEST AIR FRYER?
We cook with many different air fryers, all different brands. Our three test kitchens use them around the clock for testing and refining our recipes. We definitely have our favorites and talk about each one. From there you can decide what model and size works best for you or your family.
- Size matters, especially if you’re needing to feed a family of four to six hungry people.
- We’re mostly cooking for two during the busy weeknights and the 3 qt size fryers is great for us.
- If you’re wondering what size of air fryer to get our recommendation is the 3-4 qt sizes for 2-3 people (or if you don’t mind cooking multiple batches) and the 5-6 qt for families of 4-6 (you’ll still cook somethings in batches, but not as much as the smaller air fryers).

Good Mid-Sized Air Fryers
“That’s a stylish Air Fryer” was said as we unboxed the Cosori. Beyond being stylish, it has cooked great. The basket is not as tall and wider than most in its size group, which is perfect. You’ll have a lot better results in an air fryer with single layered, spread out foods, then with ones piled high and thick.
The non-stick basket style (non-wire base) & smoothness of the basket tray is also great for clean up.
Has a great ceramic coated basket, one of the longest lasting we’ve used. Super powerful fan that will often cook recipes even faster than other air fryers. We initially returned our first one because we thought we wouldn’t like the basket style. After reconsidering, we bought another and are super glad we did. We love it’s basket and just a platform insert. One less bulky thing to wash. This is a great air fryer.
Simple functional panel. Solid basket design that is less likely to come unscrewed or break like other designs frequently do after a few months of repeated use. Great price for the size. They have several color options for the design-minded user.
Good Larger Air Fryers
This is quickly becoming one of our favorite larger basket style air fryers. Great basket size, good controls, cooks nice. Clean up is great. It has become one of our kitchen favorites.
Most of us are familiar with the Instant Pot Brand of pressure cookers. They now make air fryers and it has become a regular in our kitchen. The Vortex plus 9-in-1 is beyond the conventional air fryer. The “plus” boasts features beyond the hot circulating air: Broil, Bake, Dehydrate, Rotisserie, Roast and Re-heat.
12 Cooking modes. Connects to your smartphone & has Alexa or Google Assistant integration for voice control. 32 quarts. Large enough it actually has a rotisserie too.
Good Alternate Style Fryers –
These Air Fryers are great for specific moments, especially for turkeys, ribs, & other big cooking needs. They might not be the first to grab for daily use, but can be game changers for your big gatherings. They’ll take care of the big stuff or bring the cooking outside while freeing up your oven or kitchen for cooking everything else.
For outside use only. This type of oil less air fryer is fueled by a propane tank. It cooks a great turkey and you can read our write up about it here.
Love to Air Fry? Love to Pressure Cook? The Ninja Foodi has you covered for both. 8qt. capacity. Pressure cook until tender then air fry them golden and crisp. Or just use either the pressure cooker function or the air fryer function by itself. The possibilities abound.
This style of air fryer is perfect for turkeys and it is amazing. The expansion ring puts its capacity at 18 qts. (large enough for a 16 lb. turkey. Here’s the recipe (with gravy too!) for air frying a turkey in this style air fryer.

Trying to pick one out for the Holidays ahead of Thanksgiving. This helped so much.
You guys are the only trusted reviewers when it comes to air fryers! Really insightful.
I have the Gourmia 6 qt that you mention in this post. I did get it at Costco. I LOVE this air fryer for the reasons that you stated, especially the basket size. I really like that the basket is square, and that gives a little more room than the round baskets. I have used many of the presets, as that takes the guesswork out of “what temp and time” is needed. It’s just my husband and I, but I have used it to cook for four of us.
