Tabasco Chicken Wings Recipe

Chicken Wing Recipes are often fried, baked or grilled. Sometimes the recipes for chicken buffalo wings are loaded with butter and grease. But you don’t have to give up one of the most popular chicken appetizers because of the calories. We have had options for healthy chicken buffalo wings such as our healthy sriracha chicken wings recipe.

The same idea for making healthier chicken wings carries over to different spicy hot sauce flavors such as Tabasco sauce. This popular hot sauce favorite is made into a healthy sauce so you can get the best of both worlds if you’re a fan of wings and Tabasco!

Less Calorie Chicken Wings

We make these using tomato sauce instead of all the butter in traditional buffalo wings. You can also make them “healthier” by par-boiling or poaching them first. Poach them for about 3 minutes or until you see fat floating on top of the water. Drain then bake the wings for about 35-40 minutes at 425°F/220°C.

Cooking off the excess chicken wing fat

The quick poach releases a lot of oil before baking them. This makes them less fatty and greasy because most of the fat is rendered from the skin. These healthier chicken wings will be just as flavorful because of the tabasco sauce. So you won’t miss all the extra calories and will enjoy each bite that’s loaded with flavor. Tabasco Chicken Wings

The sauce uses tomato sauce to create the body of the sauce instead of all the butter in traditional buffalo wing sauces, to make it less caloric. Adjust the Tabasco and brown sugar to get the spicy or sweetness you prefer.
Chicken wings can be prepared in different ways: fried or baked, either way dredged in flour or not. Visit this write up on different ways to prepare chicken wings. This recipe shows a healthier baked technique, but you can certainly fry them if you like.

Traditional Fry in Oil (uses about 1/2-3/4 cup of cornstarch to coat wings).
Toss the wings in cornstarch to coat, shaking off excess cornstarch.
Heat about 1-inch of oil in a large pot or skillet to 350-375°F (175-190°C). Fry in batches for about 3-5 minutes per side, or until golden and cooked through. Make sure to turn the wings while cooking so they cook evenly. Season with salt & pepper. Toss with the sauce.

Toss with a little sauce, and then air fry for another 2-4 minutes. Toss with additional sauce if desired after air frying. Different models and sizes of air fryers cook quicker than others. Adjust times accordingly.
